Why did I name my company Lede The Way?
A lede is the most compelling piece of information in a news story. It appears right at the beginning, and its job is simple: make the reader stop, pay attention, and want to continue.
A good lede opens a story. A great lede reveals why the story matters.
In newsrooms, the strength of a lede is often seen as the first sign of a strong story. That is why journalists and editors often ask: “What’s the lede?”
After nearly eight years as a newspaper journalist in India, that question stayed with me. It shaped how I reported, how I wrote, and how I learned to find meaning inside complex subjects.
In May 2023, less than a year after moving from India to Denmark, I registered my freelance communications practice and named it Lede The Way.
The name reflects my journalism roots, but also my approach to communication. I believe strong content should do more than fill a page. It should catch attention, create understanding, and give people a reason to keep reading.
There is also a Danish connection. In Danish, at lede means “to lead.” That makes Lede The Way a reflection of what I offer today: helping companies doing complex work lead their audiences through ideas with clarity, curiosity, and story.
From journalism to science communication
Before moving to Denmark in 2022, I spent several years as a journalist in India, reporting on science, environment, health, wildlife, climate, public issues, and the impact of unsustainable industrial practices.
Journalism trained me to work with complexity. It taught me to ask better questions, speak with experts, follow evidence, read between the lines of reports and data, and turn large amounts of information into stories people could understand and care about.
That training still shapes everything I do today.
Research comes first
My writing begins long before the writing begins.
I like going deep into a topic until I find the detail that makes it come alive. Sometimes it is a forgotten historical anecdote. Sometimes it is an analogy that makes the idea instantly click. Sometimes it is one simple question that opens up the whole story.
That is why research is not a step in my process. It is the foundation of the work.
What I do today
Today, I help science-led and sustainability-focused organizations turn complex ideas into clear, engaging communication.
In Denmark, I have partnered with organizations including Novonesis, BioMar, Welcon, and Superwood on communication across biosolutions, sustainability, ESG, employer branding, responsible business, and human rights.
My ongoing work with Novonesis, a C25-listed global biosolutions company, has especially shaped my expertise in turning complex science and innovation into accessible, engaging stories for wider audiences.
Beyond the work
When I am not crafting stories for my clients, you will usually find me cooking food, updating myself on the latest news from around the world, getting lost in deep conversations over coffee, or watching a film.
Languages
I’m a polyglot. I work professionally in English and have spent my career writing, editing, and communicating for English-language audiences. I speak four Indian languages: Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil. Growing up in a multicultural household taught me early that communication is never just about words. It is also about culture, context, tone, and meaning. Since moving to Denmark, I have completed Prøve i Dansk 2 and can manage basic conversations in Danish.
